City Council President Mike Ross insisted that my assertion that Boston could be impacted financially by the asinine resolution that was passed by his fellow Boston lawmakers that will force Beantown from doing business with Arizona because of its crackdown on illegals was "preposterous."Really Ross? Because Tom Constantine, a retired Marine and former Massachusetts State Trooper, canceled a large graduation dinner he planned to host for his daughter in the North End."Ten of us are now going to dinner south of the city,'' Constantine told me. "If Ross thinks this idiot stunt will have no impact economically on Boston he should think again."That's exactly what Mike Virostko of Townsend said. He was excited about taking his wife out in the city on Sunday for Mother's Day."Boston does not want to do much direct business with Arizona so the vote is symbolic or "feel good." I will follow the City Council's lead in that respect. I was planning to bring my wife to the North End for dinner and to walk the city. I will be going someplace else this weekend,'' he said. "Though this is small money, it is symbolic."What about Marine's Week which is taking place on the Boston Common until Saturday. Bill Sharpe was bringing his family in to salute the Marines. They are still coming."But I won't be spending any money eating out,'' Sharpe said.I guess my prediction that Boston would be hurt by the cheap political stunt far worse than Arizona would be was not so "preposterous" after all.
